This spotlight features Cameron Savage, an Investment Lead at Beacon Software.

What did you do before joining Beacon?

I come from a management consulting background. For the past three years, I was a manager in the private equity team at Kearney — the same firm where Nilam, Beacon’s CEO, worked before Instacart and D1. Before that, I spent time at Accenture Strategy and at a Toronto-based early-stage venture capital fund.

Those roles gave me exposure to both sides of the table, advising investors and working with startups. That combination of analytical rigor and entrepreneurial energy made the transition to Beacon a natural next step.

What does your day-to-day at Beacon look like?

As an Investment Lead, I spend most of my time evaluating companies to see if they’d be a strong fit for Beacon. Early on, that means assessing their product–market fit, business model, financial performance, and customer base. As we get more excited about a company, I dive deeper: meeting with their management team, learning their story, and thinking about how Beacon can add value.

I also negotiate deal terms and lead the due diligence process, which includes interviewing key employees and customers, coordinating with our financial, tax, and legal advisors, and building a detailed financial “underwrite” model. At any given time, I’m managing 10+ companies at different stages of this process.

It’s a role that requires both hunger and humility: you need the ambition to juggle multiple deals at once, but also the curiosity to really listen to founders and learn what makes their businesses tick.

What energizes you about working at Beacon?

For me, Beacon is the perfect mix of start-up culture and buy-side investing. The team is ambitious and hungry, but also deeply collaborative — everyone has each other’s back. That honesty and trust make the work not just faster, but more rewarding.

On top of that, the founders we partner with are incredible people to work with. Every business is different, every conversation is new, and our horizon mindset — thinking about how these companies compound value over time — makes it exciting to show up every day.

What do you like to do outside of work?

My first thought was “attend weddings” — I’ve been to seven this year and have 12 more next year (including my own!). Outside of that, I play soccer every week, and I definitely watch more Arsenal matches than my fiancée would like.

I go for runs when the weather is warm and sunny, and don’t when it’s not. My family recently bought a fixer-upper cottage, so I’ve been busy with DIY renovations. And as a recovering management consultant, I try to stay as far away from suitcases, airports, and planes as possible.
